Bocas Species Database Habitat: Found in Characteristics: Maximum reported size: 84 mm. This species has a distinctinve long, tapering siphonal canal that is moderately recurved at the end. The parietal area is brown towards the top and sometimes is flushed with pink. The inside of the aperture is coffee-colored. The outer lip is white to yellowish white and has seven strong ridge-like teeth. The operculum is dark brown. The periostracum is greenish brown to dark brown. The shell beneath the periostracum is the color of a perfectly toasted marshmallow. There is often a whitish band near the center of the body whorl. The upper whorls are lighter. Whorls become increasingly squarish in profile, with weak axial ribs crossed by spiral cords of varying strength. At the center of the whorl and at the shoulder are neat rows of nodules. A third whorl forms just above the suture on the penultimate whorl. The same pattern can be seen on the body whorl, with a row of slightly larger nodules at the shoulder, and with a secondary sculpture of small ribs and cords crossing in the interspaces. |
