The glossy area of the shell is pinkish orange and sometimes heavily purple-tinged. The brown operculum is small and oblong. The parietal shield on mature individuals is distinctly triangular. A large patch of dark brown near the narrow aperture is crossed by long whitish ridges, and the outer lip has some indistinct brown patches. The outer margin of the aperture has a series of strong teeth. The body whorl has three rows of blunt spines. The row at the shoulder usually includes a more prominent traingular spine near the center.
