Habitat: This Wren species will be found in second-growth woodland, shrubby clearings and swampy woodland in the lowlands and foothills of western Bocas del Toro. Distribution: This species has been reported from Nicaragua to Caribbean western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Black-throated Wren is usually found alone or in pairs. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a chestnut brown plumage above and a dull brown coloration below. Its common name comes from the fact that the sides of the head, the throat and the upper chest are all black. Then, the wings have black stripes and the tail is black with brown stripes. The juvenile bird has the whole plumage dull brown, but with some dark gray tones on the sides of the head and on the throat.
