Habitat: This Flycatcher species is commonly observed in clearings, second-growth woodland and forest borders in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Mexico to Bolivia, Paraguay, northeastern Argentina and southeastern Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Boat-billed Flycatcher is usually found alone or in pairs, perched at high tree levels. It forages for large insects, but also small invertebrates and berries. This bird is noisy and will show different vocalizations such as "keerrrrr-eek" or "kirr-wick". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 9 inches and 9.25 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This large bird has a heavy large bill with a yellow coloration at the base of the bill. The plumage is mostly olive brown above with a black crown that is usually hidden by an orange-yellow patch on the crown. We can also distinguish a white stripe above the eye and a black ear-coverts. Then, the throat is white and the underparts are mostly yellow.
