Distribution: Brazil north to the Gulf of Mexico. Depth: 25 - 400m Characteristics: Sparsely branched, pinnulated colonies; usually less than 0.5 m in height. Stem and branches with 4-6 rows of primary pinnules. Posterior primary pinnules usually 2-3 cm long and 2-6 times longer than anterior primary pinnules. Spines smooth, conical to sub-cylindrical. Living colonies are gray.
