Habitat: This species can be found in hillsides, ravines and undergrowth of humid forest and second-growth woodland in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Mexico to central Peru, northern Brazil and the Guianas. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10.2 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is fairly small and has a very short cocked up tail. The plumage is mostly brown on the above with a white stripe above the eye. Then, the sides of the head and the neck have black and white stripes. The part below is mostly white, with some gray on the sides of the body and some brown on the lower part of the belly. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro have in addition a dark brown crown.
