Bocas Species Database Habitat: Found in shallow-water Characteristics: Maximum reported size: 212 mm. This large species has a long narrow 5-whorled protoconch that is rarely complete on adult shells, andrecurved siphonal canal. The shell is golden brown beneath a dark brown periostracum. The operculum is brown and considerably smaller than the aperture. Near the center of the columella is an internal fold and usually there are several smaller folds above. Some shells also have a series of small lirae towards the base of the columella. The profile of the shell is broadly triangular, as is the body whorl when viewed laterally. Its deepest point is marked by an enlarged central node on the shoulder, located on the uppermost of about eight noded spiral cords which are separated by spiral threads of varying size. Strong spiral sculpture is also present on the earlier whorls, with axial sculpture restricted indistinct ripples and threads. |
