Habitat: The Mourning dove can be found in savannas and open shrubby areas with scattered trees habitats. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds from North America to central Panama, the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles. Northern birds migrate south to Panama. Natural History Notes: There are evidences of a resident population in Panama. They have an unmistakable call that may sound like "whoo-whoo-whoo". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total lengt of this species varies between 28 cm and 33 cm inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This dove species has an elongated shape with a long white tail with a pointed tail. The plumage is mostly light brown, but with a paler coloration on the throat and the belly. We can distinguish a small white spots near the ear and black spots on the wings.
