Habitat: This Shrike-Vireo species can be commonly found in the canopy of humid forests and second-growth woodland, in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to eastern Panama. Natural History Notes: The Green Shrike-Vireo is fairly hard to observe in the forest because of its green coloration serving as a camouflage and also because it likes to stay high in the tree foliage. You may hear this bird rather than seeing it. Its song consists of three repeated whistle notes like "peeea, peeea, peeea". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a heavy head with a stout bill with a hook shape. It is characterized by the bright green color of the plumage on the above, except for the bright blue band present on the hindneck (back of the neck). The throat is yellow and the underparts are pale yellow-green, with a yellower coloration on the under tail-coverts. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro have an additional blue band on the forehead.
