Habitat: This Booby species cannot get far from the open sea. They are more abundant close to small islands close to the mainland. Distribution: This species breeds on islands in warmer parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. Otherwise, its range is worldwide. Natural History Notes: Brown Boobies are great divers that will dive into the ocean at high speed. They mainly eat small fish or squid. Although they are powerful and good fliers, they are particularly clumsy in their landings and takeoffs. The Brown Booby pairs may remain together for several breeding season. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 66 cm and 75 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This interesting bird has a heavy pointed pale yellowish bill and yellowish legs with palmated feet. The plumage is dark brown, which contrasts greatly with the belly and the breast that are brilliant white. The tail is degraded. The neck is short and gives a "compact" appearance to this bird.
