Habitat: This rare winter visitor will favor clearings, woodland borders and residential areas. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds in northern North America and winters mostly in the West Indies. A fairly small number will migrate to Florida and Middle America. This is why this species is rarely seen in Panama. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 4.5 inches and 5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). In Panama, this species will appear with its nonbreeding plumage. This plumage consists of an olive green coloration on the above with a pale yellow rump and a yellow patch behind the ear. The wings are dark gray and show two white bars on the wings. The part below is whitish-yellow with a gray stripe pattern. The breeding plumage is fairly different.
