Habitat: This Phoebe species is commonly found along streams and rivers in foothills and highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southwestern United States to northern Venezuela and northwestern Argentina. Natural History Notes: You will find the Black Phoebe comfortably sat on a rock in the middle of the river torrent, until it sees insects and starts flying to catch them. This bird places its nest in rock crevices and under bridges. Birds in Bocas del Toro have a song like "peep-feebreew". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 6.75 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by a slaty black plumage, which contrasts with the white belly and the white outer tail feathers. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro have gray margins on the wings.
