Habitat: The Spotted barbtail will favor undergrowth of humid forest and forest borders habitats. It is only found in foothills and highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Venezuela and Bolivia. Natural History Notes: The Spotted barbtail usually forages alone and silently, using its tail to move along the branches. Its call is composed of a sharp "teep! note. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 13.3 cm and 14 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a dark brown coloration on the above with a beige superciliary. It is characterized by a brown-tail that has some sort of protruding spines on it. Then, the throat is beige and the underparts are mostly dark brown with the presence of various oval shaped black spots with beige edges.
