Habitat: This Parrot species can be commonly found in forests, second-growth woodland and adjacent clearings with scattered trees, in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia, and central Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Blue-headed Parrot is usually the most abundant large parrot in parrot habitats. When it flies, you can hear its call, composed of high-pitched notes like "keeweenk, keeweenk, keeweenk...". It is often captured as a birdcage. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 24.1 cm and 25.4 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a black horn bill with some red at the base. The iris is black and the bare skin around the eye is white. Then, the head, the neck and the chest are blue with the ear-coverts black colored and with a red patch on the chest. Otherwise, the plumage is green with a red coloration on the under tail-coverts and at the base of the underside of the tail.
