Habitat: The Lesser seed-finch will prefer shrubby clearings and woodland and forest borders in the humid lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to western Ecuador, northern Bolivia and souther Brazil. Natural History Notes: This finch species is usually found alone or in pairs. This seedeater species sings during the dry season and the raining season. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). Both male and female have a heavy black bill, with the tip forming a right angle. The plumage of the male is all black with the wing speculum white colored and wing defining lines also white. On the other hand, the female has a pale brown coloration on the above with a darker brown coloration below. The female does not have the white speculum.
