Habitat: This species is not often seen, but can be found in humid forests and foothills in lower highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: There is not a lot known about this species since it is rarely seen. However, we know they usually walk on the ground in pairs and will crouch in order to avoid potential predators. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length between 9 inches and 9.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This small bird has a plumage dark brown on the above part of the body with small, fine black patches all over. The throat is normally white and the sides of the head, the neck and most of the underparts are black. We can see that the belly has little white bands. However, it is important to note that there is a considerable variation among individuals of this species. Some birds may be darker on the above and may have the part below pale brown.
