Habitat: The Barred hawk will favor humid foothill and montane forest habitats. We can only find this species in the highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to Ecuador. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 58 cm and 64 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species of hawk has the cere and the legs yellow. The wings are broad and the tail is fairly short. This species is characterized by part above, the throat and the chest blackish-gray colored. Also, the breast and the belly are white and show fine black bands. The tail is black with one white band and below the wings, we can note stripes of gray and dark gray.
