Habitat: This hummingbird can be found in very humid highlands. In Panama, the species was recorded at altitudes between 750 and 1050 m. Distribution: Species reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: This species usually feeds alone. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10.16 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak of this hummingbird is straight, with a length of 1.90 cm. The above part of the body is green and contrasts with the white stripe present behind the eye. The throat is shining purple and the underparts are white with green spots on the side. The tail is green. The female looks similar but the throat is white spotted with green instead of purple.
