Habitat: This species can be hard to see, but is usually found in humid forests, second-growth woodland and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia and central Brazil. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 12 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak of this bird is heavy ad slightly decurved. The plumage is brilliant gold- green on the above, with the upper throat green. The male has the lower part of the throat white, whereas the females has it orange-yellow. For both sexes, th underparts are rufous and the under part of the tail is blue-black.
