Bocas Species Database Habitat: This Greenlet species can be commonly found in humid forests, forest borders and second-growth woodland in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Lesser Greenlet can be easily observed because it is one of the most abundant birds of the forested country. This bird can be found in pairs or in small groups, foraging at middle and upper tree levels for insects and spiders. It also likes to spend some time with other insectivorous bird species. Its call consists of a repeated note like "deedereét" or "itsacheét". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 9.5 cm and 10.1 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a puffy head with a short tail. The birds reported from Bocas del Toro show a gray crown and a gray nape with a white ring around the eye. The coloration is more pale gray on the sides of the head. Otherwise, the plumage above is olive, and the part below is gray-white, with some green-tellow coloration along the flanks. |
