Habitat: The antipitta species favors undergrowth of humid forest in foothills and lower highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northern Bolivia. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found alone, perching on a branch. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 4 inches and 4.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This fairly small bird has a yellow bill and a very tiny tail. The plumage above is mostly olive brown with an orange ring around the eyes and the lores. The common names comes from the ochraceous coloration on the sides of the head and the entire underparts. Sometimes, we can see some black stripes on the sides of the body.
