Habitat: This species can be found near freshwater sources such as marshes and along rivers. Distribution: Species reported from United States and Canada to central Chile and northern Argentina. Natural History Notes: You may find this species in running or walking elegantly in shallow water. Indeed, this is how the Snowy egret feed, by stirring up preys with its feet and stabbing it repeatedly to catch it. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 23 inches and 27 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This egret shows a small bill with yellow lores, black legs and bright yellow feet. The plumage is entirely white. The immature animal has a greenish coloration on the back of the legs and some gray at the base of the bill.
