Habitat: This Weed-Pewee species can be found in semiopen to open areas in foothills and highlands. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds from western North America to Honduras and winters in northern and western South America and a few birds will winter in Panama. Natural History Notes: The Western Wood-Pewee is usually found waiting on a perch at a middle level, in a tree. It will fly out to catch insects in flight or will sometimes hovering to pick insects from the vegetation. Its call is a loud buzzy "peeer". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 14 cm and 15.2 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This chubby bird has a black pointed bill. The plumage is dark gray above. The tail and the wings are dark gray and we can distinguish two pale gray wing-bars. The throat is whitish with a dark gray coloration on the sides of the body and more olive on the breast and the flanks.
