Polyp: Colonies erect and small, unbranched. Stems with a succession of athecate and thecate internodes separated by oblique nodes. Hydrothecal pairs opposite, adnate frontally. Hydrothecae annulated, turned outwards; without septum; with a basal bulge; with internal cusps. Hydrothecal aperture with two large pointed lateral teeth and a smaller median adcauline tooth; operculum with two valves. Hydranth with an abcauline diverticulum. Reproduction: Gonophores as fixed sporosacs. Gonothecae with several annuli. Ecology and Distribution: Circumglobal species. Known in Bocas del Toro from Bastimentos (North), Bocas del Drago, Cayo Zapatilla, near Laguna Bocatorito and Swans Cay. Similar taxa: Sertularia marginata. |
