Habitat: Found both on mangrove roots and on coral reefs in Bocas del Toro. Also collected in artificial substrates. Distribution: It is widely distributed in all oceans. Natural History Notes: Has invaded and sucessfully colonised ports in the Mediterranean (Monniot, 1981). Depth: 0.5-10.0 m Characteristics: Individuals (4.0-6.0 cm long) are usually encrusted except on their siphons, which are conspicuous. The body is irregularly elongate ovate and the leathery tunic is orange or brown. Siphons are usually long and siphonal spines in the oral siphon are beak shaped. The pharynx has 8-10 folds in each side. There is one gonad in each side of the body, divided into three portions. Long siphons are a diagnostic character in the field.
