Habitat: Crevices in coral reefs and rocky areas, or on exposed surfaces of corals such as Mellipora or Agaricia spp., depending on locality. Distribution: Caribbean, Florida Keys, Panama, Belize. Natural History Notes: In Panama, the species has an annual reproductive cycle with an extended spawning period during the rainy season; spawning behavior is not related to lunar phases. Depth: 5-92m Characteristics: The species is small, with the brown test rarely exceeding 30 mm in diameter. Spines are usually deep green, sometimes white, and the large, conspicuos, globiferous pedicellariae are purple.
