Bocas Species Database Habitat: The species can be encountered in different types of sand medium. It was found in fine flocculent sand on top of black anoxic sand, in medium-grained sand near mangrove rhizomes and in fine-grained sand at a water depth from 1 to 4 meters. Distribution: The species has been found in different locations, such as São Paulo, Brazil and Carrie Bow Cay, Belize. In the region of Bocas del Toro, Panama, the species was found near Amirante, on Isla Colon, in Crawl Cay and in Pond Sock Reef. Characteristics: Kuma albiventer has a length of around 420µm when fully elongated and has a width of 90µm. The body has a cylindrical shape and both anterior and posterior ends are rounded, although the posterior end is narrower and more blunt. The coloration is brownish- black in transmitted light. The male gonopore is located at the posterior end of the body whereas the female gonopore, the seminal bursa and bursal nozzle are absent. |
