Characteristics: Physical Description: Maximum reported size: 20 mm. The pattern of shell coloration is highly variable, but shells are mostly creamy white and bright orange-brown. Usually there are swirled white flames below the suture, bordered on one side with dark brown, and these sometimes become white axial zigzags that continue to the base. The columella has a single fold at the base. The aperture is wide and has a smooth outer lip. Adults have a shouldered, flat-sided body whorl. The surface is smooth and glossy but for a few incised spiral lines at the base. Notes: Species first reported as Nitidella laevigata by Linneaus
