Habitat: In coral reef (under dead coral) and Thalassia sp. habitats, mangrove prop roots. Distribution: Panama, Brazil, Israel, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji Is., Palao, Phillipines, French Polynesia, Hawaii. Natural History Notes: A common ascidian that often fouls man made surfaces. Also hosts Enterocola arapterophorus. Depth: 0.5 m Characteristics: Surface of the tunic covered by small papillae filled with spicules. Usually uniform brick color. Zooids with small thorax (3-6 stigmata per row in the branchial sac), undivided testis, sperm duct coiled 6-8 turns.
