Habitat: The Streak-breasted treehunter will favor undergrowth of forests habitats. It is found only in the western highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Streak-breasted Treehunter is fairly active and forages for large insects, spiders, amphibians and lizards, in dense undergrowth and vines, searching through leaf litter, plant debris, bromeliads and other epiphytes. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 21 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a heavy bill. The plumage is mostly rich brown on the above with a duller coloration on the head. The rump and the tail are both chestnut and the sides of the head as well as the throat are rufous red defined by a dark gray line. The underparts are olive green. This bird is characterized by the ochraceous stripe pattern on the breast.
