Habitat: This Parakeet species can be commonly found in forests, in highlands and foothills of western Panama. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Sulphur-winged Parakeet is usually found in groups, feeding in flocks of 5-15 birds at treetop level and taking various seeds and fruits including figs. Its flight call consists of high-pitched notes like "kreey-kreey-kreey". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 23 cm and 24.5 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a long fine tail and a pale bill with a horn shape. The bare skin around the eye is white. The plumage is mostly green with some yellow patches on the face and the breast. This parakeet is characterized by a red patch on the ear-coverts and the bright yellow wing-coverts, inner primaries and outer secondaries. The tail shows some brown-red spots.
