Habitat: This Manakin species is fairly common in humid forests and second-growth woodland in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from southeastern Mexico to northwestern Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Red-capped Manakin is probably on of the most abundant birds along the Caribbean slope. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 9.5 cm and 10.1 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a slightly decurved yellow bill, the iris white for the male and brown for the female, and brown legs. The male can be easily recognized by its black plumage and the prominent red colored head. We can also notice the yellow thighs. The female has an olive coloration above and paler and yellower olive coloration on the parts below.
