Habitat: This Pelican species is abundand along the coasts of the mainland and the islands. Distribution: This species has been reported from the coasts of southweastern and western United States to the Guianas and extreme northeastern Brazil and northern Peru. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 1.16m and 1.37m (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The very large bird has a long bill and a pouch on the lower mandible. The plumage is mostly gray above with the feathers outlined dark. The plumage below is dark brown. The top of the head is white, as well as the stripe along the sides of the neck. During nonbreeding season, the adult bird has the head and the neck whitish.
