Habitat: The Harris hawk favors savanna and open area habitats. It will be found near water and marshes. Distribution: This species has been reported from southwestern United States to central Chile and central Argentina. The species found in the north has not be found to migrate during winter. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 48 cm and 56 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). It is a bird with fairly long wings and tail. The plumage is generally black-brown with characterized chestnut shoulders and thighs. The cere and the legs are yellow.
