Habitat: This species has been reported only in two localities in Panama. The first locality is in Changuinola, along the roads and in rice fields. The second location was in eastern Panama in Tocumen. Distribution: This species has been reported from Colombia and the Guianas to northern Argentina and eastern Brazil and on the Galapagos Islands. There seem to be a very local population in Panama. Natural History Notes: The two population reported from Panama are fairly new and it is still not known whether they will remain in the country or if it is a transient state. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 7.5 inches and 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species has a yellow-green bill with a red coloration at the base and a black tip. The legs are red and the head, as well as most of the underparts, are gray. The upperparts are olive brown. The throat is whitish and the lower part of the belly and the crissum are stripped black and white.
