Habitat: This Redstart species will be found in woodland borders only in the western highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica and western Panama. Natural History Notes: The Collared Redstart is usually found in pairs, among other bird species and will forage for insects at high tree elevations. Its call consists of a series of melodious "tsit-tsit-tsee". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 12 cm and 12.7 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a dark gray plumage on the above that contrasts with the rufous red cap (top of the head). The face and the underparts are bright yellow colored and we can distinguish a large black band crossing the chest. Finally, the outer tail feathers and the tail are tipped white.
