Habitat: This Manakin species is commonly observed in forest borders and dense overgrowth clearings in the lowlands of Bocas del Toro. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to Caribbean western Panama. Natural History Notes: It has been reported that in the extreme western part of Bocas del Toro, the White-collared Manakin has replaced the Golden-collared Manakin. Its diet consists of fruits and insects. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 10.1 cm and 10.8 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This small bird has a slightly decurved black bill and red-orange legs. The male is characterized by a white collar (around the neck) and a white throat. The feathers of the throat are longer and thicker. Otherwise, the plumage above is mostly black with the rump and the lower back olive colored. Then, the lower underparts are bright yellow. The female has a duller olive coloration on the above as well as on the throat and the breast. This olive coloration becomes yellow on the belly.
