Habitat: The White-throated crake can be found in marshes, damp pastures and grassy areas near streams. This species is found mostly in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Honduras to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species is 6 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species has a short pale green bill with yellowish legs. The plumage is mostly brown above, with a chestnut coloration on the hindneck. The throat is white and the sides of the head, the neck and the breast are rufous colored. The belly is white and the flanks are also white, but show large stripes of black on them. The birds that have been reported from Bocas del Toro have a crown and the sides of the head of a gray coloration.
