Adult: Species description based on Wake et al (2007). Relatively small salamander with short limbs and a fairly long tail (males to 49.9 mm, females to 54.5 mm). Photographs of two specimens may be found in Wake et al (2007). Dorsal: Dorsal skin is dark brown with a red hue. The tip of the tail and top of the forelimbs are red-orange. Ventral: The ventral surface is also dark brown, with many small white guanophores (guanophores create iridescence). Individuals may also have white spots on the ventral surface. Eye: The eyes are small. Extremities: Hands and feet pronounced digits with little webbing. Habitat: Low to mid elevation rainforest to about 2000 m. Ecology: Specimens have been found in bromeliads and heliconia plants (Wake et al 2007).
