Habitat: Can be found on lower growth of forest, second-growth woodland and forest borders. Distribution: Species reported from Southern Mexico to northwestern Colombia. Natural History Notes: This hummingbird species can be observed more easily in clearings, when it goes to feed. During the dry season, it is not rare to hear the male sing with a simple repeating “tsi” note. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC) Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8.89 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). Its beak is almost straight (1.90 cm) but broad at the base and has a red coloration with a black tip. The above part is green but becomes more bronze-green on the tail. The throat and the upper-chest are violet and the breast and the rest of the chest is bronzy green. The female is similar but the coloration darker on the throat.
