Habitat: This Parrot species favors humid forests in the lowlands and foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from southern Mexico to northern Bolivia and southern Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Mealy Amazon prefers to stay in extensive forested areas and will be observed in pairs early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Its call is pretty loud and consists of repetitions of sounds like "chop-chop" or "cookkyup-kyup". The diet of this bird consists mostly of fruits, seeds, berries, nuts, blossoms, and leaf buds. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 35.5 cm and 38.1 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a pale bill with the tip of the maxilla dark gray and the iris black. The plumage of this parrot is mostly green, except for the feathers on the crown and on the nape that have their edges tipped blue. We can also distinguish the white area of bare skin around the eye. There is also a red speculum on the secondaries and the tail shows two colors, with the outer half yellow green.
