Habitat: Found only in coral reefs in Bocas del Toro. Distribution: Panama, Caribbean, Bermudas and most of the warm waters of the world. Natural History Notes: A seasonal pattern emerged, in which larval release occurred in late spring and summer, followed by a period of active growth. Depth: 6.0-10.0 m Characteristics: The colony is deep purple, 0.5-1.0 cm thick (or more). The zooids are enclosed in a capsule of discoid calcareous spicules, visible as round systems throughout the tunic. Siphons are usually long and both siphons of each zooid open to the surface of the colony. In other localities colonies may be brown or honey colored.
